General Dentistry
General dentistry endeavours to improve and protect overall oral health through preventive and restorative dentistry. We offer comprehensive general dentistry to the families of Monterey and Sydney with the aim of helping those in our community enjoy healthy, comfortable smiles.
Routine Check-Ups and Cleans
The cornerstone of preventive dentistry includes regular dental exams and cleans. We base our recommendation for preventive dental visit frequency on a patient-by-patient basis. Each person’s oral health is unique and can change over the course of a lifetime.
Check-ups with Dr Evet Ishak, Dr David Bashout or Dr Mina Azmi will help our dentists identify developing oral health diseases, such as decay and infection, and provide treatment options to heal oral health and protect the appearance of the smile.
We routinely take dental x-rays to see what is happening beneath the gums and enamel, aiming to avoid dental emergencies that put teeth at risk. We use digital dental x-rays in our Montery dental surgery, which result in reduced exposure to radiation over film radiographs.
Each dental clean is tailored to meet the needs of our patients. For generally healthy patients and young people, a scale and polish are often adequate, while patients with early or advanced gum disease may benefit from a root plane and scale to eliminate bacteria, tartar and infection from just below the gumline. We will discuss all treatment options at the time of the dental exam.
We also offer the following preventive dental options to help protect smiles:
- Bruxism nightguards
- Athletic mouthguards
- Fluoride application
- Fissure sealants
Our dentists are happy to discuss these options with patients who might benefit from them.
Restorative Dentistry
Teeth sometimes sustain trauma or decay and require repairs to keep them healthy. Dental fillings, crowns and bonding are common dental procedures to restore the shape, size and function of the teeth.
We also offer dental implants, partial dentures, complete dentures and dental bridges when tooth loss occurs to replace missing teeth and improve speech and chewing. Our dentists will present all options and help patients make an informed choice.
Dental Emergencies, Root Canals and Extractions
When an infection develops, pain often follows. Swelling and sensitivity can also indicate the presence of a tooth or root infection. Root canal treatment can save the tooth and help us to avoid extraction. Whenever pain is present, we invite patients to contact our dental clinic immediately. Prompt treatment sometimes leads to better outcomes and more options for the patient.
When restoration and root canal will not resolve the problem, our dentists can remove a troubled tooth to protect the remaining teeth and bone. We strive to provide gentle dentistry and have a compassionate approach to looking after patients, especially those who are in pain and need immediate solutions.
Other common dental emergencies may include an avulsed (knocked-out) tooth, broken or fractured teeth, sporting accidents, damaged restorations or dentures and unspecified pain.
We Welcome New Patients
We warmly welcome patients of all ages to contact St Mark Dental, Medical and Cosmetic Group to arrange a dental appointment with one of our dentists.
