Toothache Relief Starts Here

Do You Have Toothache or Dental Pain?
If you have a troublesome tooth and need an evaluation for a tooth extraction, our Monterey dentists can help.

Extractions and Wisdom Teeth
At St Mark Dental and Medical Group, we strive to save natural teeth whenever possible using effective preventive and active maintenance programmes as well as tooth-coloured restorative dentistry to repair teeth that have been damaged or decayed.
Extractions
Occasionally, however, removing a diseased or broken tooth is beneficial to protecting the health of the adjacent teeth and underlying bone structures. Our dentists, Dr Evet Ishak, Dr David Bashout and Dr Mina Azmi appreciate that patients want the least painful extractions possible and that tooth loss can be an emotional experience.
We provide valuable information and tooth replacement options to our patients as we guide them through the dental extraction process.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, tend to emerge in the late teens or early twenties. We can take a digital image of the teeth and surrounding bone to evaluate the need to remove the wisdom teeth.
While some people can keep their wisdom teeth with few issues, other patients find them painful or difficult to look after. Wisdom teeth removal is almost a rite of passage for young adults.

Why Tooth Extractions Are Necessary
In most cases, our dentists will try to protect a damaged tooth or remove infection with a root canal. Here are some situations when extraction might be a better option.
Teeth that are:
- Severely decayed
- Infected in the root
- Mobile due to gum infections
- Broken at the gumline
- Consistently painful
- Impacted (unable to erupt)
- Being replaced with dentures
- Problematic wisdom teeth
- Impeding orthodontic treatment
- Causing pressure on nearby teeth
One of our Monterey dentists will discuss your options so that you can make an informed choice for your smile.

What to Expect during a Dental Extraction
1. Panoramic X-Rays
Planning makes the procedure of removing teeth go more smoothly. Panoramic x-rays give a full-mouth view of the teeth, bone and jaw joints. By knowing the position of roots and nearby teeth before beginning, the entire process involves less guesswork.
2. Pain Control
We will thoroughly anaesthetise the tooth and the surrounding area.
3. Surgical Extractions
Our dentists work efficiently, and most patients are pleasantly surprised at how quickly we can eliminate a tooth. Surgical extractions for teeth that did not emerge fully from the gums require stitches while simple extractions do not.
Tooth Extraction Aftercare
It is best to avoid drinking through a straw and smoking during recovery. The suction caused by those activities can cause the healing tissue to dislodge and cause a painful dry socket.
Some swelling and bruising are common and should subside within a few days to a week. For pain management, anti-inflammatories and over-the-counter medications approved by your medical practitioner can help.
